Saving water in your council home

Book a free ‘water audit’ and install a water-saving device. You could save money on your water and energy bills.

Dripping tap

We are offering this scheme to all council tenants, at no cost to you. As well as saving you money, it will help protect the environment by preserving water supplies.

The first stage is to arrange a visit from our partner, Control Flow Technologies (CFT). They will take a meter reading, offer water-saving tips, and discuss your water use.

They will then arrange a second visit a month later, when they will install a water-saving device on your home's incoming water main. Installation will take about 45 minutes.

CFT will also check for any hidden leaks in toilets, taps or showers. If they find any, they will repair them if they can.

The device can save about 80 litres of water per day, which can translate to 7kWH of gas per day. Saving water could also save you money on your energy bill – we think some households could save up to £360 per year.

You should not need to significantly change your normal water habits. The device should not affect your taps or shower.

Chapter two of our Greening Your Home guide provides lots of information about how to save water at home.

We are paying for this scheme with funding from the government. We are investigating using it for water-saving measures in our leisure facilities and similar projects.
