Council briefings


The council hosts annual briefing events with representatives from local businesses, partner organisations, and the community and voluntary sector.

The briefings set out the opportunities and challenges facing us and the wider city, provide an opportunity to discuss our priorities and ambitions and hear from local partners.

January 2026 briefing: Cambridge Conversations

More than 70 attendees joined us for the Cambridge Conversations event at the Guildhall on 21 January 2026.

  • View our vision for Cambridge (updated July 2024).
  • The proposed budget for 2026/27 - showing the forecast overspend of £11.5 million by 2030-2031 has been reduced to £1.5 million, of an annual spend of around £80 million.
  • Support for young people, such as the new Included programme, and the youth assembly outputs.
  • The State of the City report (2025 update) – a data-led overview of what Cambridge is like economically, socially, and environmentally, available for everyone to use to make informed decisions.
  • Local Government Reorganisation and the benefits of option B.
  • Supporting communities as Cambridge grows through the Local Plan and by addressing affordable housing challenges, carbon emissions and by enhancing biodiversity.
  • Table discussion on creating a successful new unitary through Local Government Reorganisation.
