The ‘register your rental property’ service will be introduced in Cambridge on 17 January 2027.
If you are landlord of an assured or regulated tenancy, you will have to:
- register yourself as a landlord
- register each property you let
The deadline to register will be 14 April 2027. Registration will cost £65 per property, per year, and you must renew it each year. You will be able to register on the government website.
Failure to register your properties will result in an initial penalty of up to £7,000. This can rise to up to £40,000 for repeated noncompliance or providing false information.
You will not need to register if you are a landlord of supported exempt accommodation. Check Section 12 of the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023 to find out whether this applies to you.
The government provides more information about how to prepare for this new service.
This service is part of the second phase of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 implementation. Read more about private renters’ rights.
