Over 300 senior citizens from in and around Cambridge boarded a fleet of coaches that left Cambridge on Tuesday 11 August, bound for the sun-kissed seaside resort of Great Yarmouth for Mayor’s Day Out 2026.

Running for over 40 years, this annual adventure shows no signs of slowing in popularity. The Cambridge locals were joined by Cambridge’s mayor, Cllr Maria Cleminson, who on arrival in Great Yarmouth enjoyed the mayor’s traditional paddle in the North Sea.

Speaking about the trip, Cllr Cleminson said: “This outing has been running for over 40 years, which just shows how hugely popular it is, and what great pleasure it gives to so many people.

“When John Woodhouse came up with the idea in 1986, I’m sure not even he would have predicted that it would continue to be such a great highlight in the civic calendar four decades later.”

Famed for its traditional seafront, delicious fish and chips and stunning beach, the day trippers spent the morning enjoying the delights of this famous seaside town.

They were then treated to an afternoon of live music in the Anchor Gardens courtesy of Britain’s Got Talent finalists, the D-Day Darlings.

Mayor’s Day Out will return in 2027 and anyone over the age of 55 and resident in Cambridge is welcome to book a space.
