Food Justice conference

In recent years we have faced not only a health pandemic, but a crisis in food availability.

Many local groups, organisations and volunteers help people in need. Others work with businesses, redistribute surplus food, or use alternative fundraising methods to support the ongoing efforts around the city.

As we move beyond the immediate response to the pandemic, we are looking for ways to continue to support our most vulnerable citizens.

In Cambridge there are more than 25 organisations in the local food poverty alliance, more than 10 food hubs and food banks, and many people volunteering their time to help.

In 2022, we made 22,271 visits to community food hubs and provided 2,476 holiday lunches across Cambridge. We were also able to deliver 850 Christmas hampers, supporting 2332 people across the city over the festive period.

2023 conference

This year’s Food Justice Conference took place on Wednesday 4 October 2023 at the Meadows Community Centre. It focused on health inequalities and access to food.

Food insecurity in Cambridge

Food insecurity is affecting lives and health more than ever before. Our short film, which we made with Cambridge Sustainable Food, explores the subject. It tells the story of some affected people and the organisations that are working hard to help them.
