Community Wealth Building

Cambridge City Council has developed a Community Wealth Building Strategy which replaces the previous Anti-Poverty Strategy.

The focus of the strategy is to tackle poverty and inequality in the city by taking a broader approach.

The strategy looks at the barriers which cause poverty in Cambridge, as the council looks to use its position and influence to challenge them, enabling all residents to thrive.

The approach will involve both using powers which are within the council’s control and using its influence in the city to create social impact. Examples of this are:

  • looking at how the council buildings and assets can be used differently by the community, start-up companies, and social enterprises
  • empowering communities; creating opportunities for them to solve their own problems and meet their needs
  • looking at how the council’s money, staff and connections can make our community stronger
  • working to bring money into the local economy
  • working together with other large local organisations to tackle local issues
